Windrush Day

Today 22nd June is Windrush Day in the UK. The 73rd anniversary of the arrival of the SS Empire Windrush into Tilbury Docks in Essex in 1948 carrying the first migrants from the Caribbean to help re build Britain. Today honours the half a million people who travelled from the Caribbean to the United KIngdom. To find out how the UK is celebrating click here .

There is a week of celebrations and recollections taking place all over the country and we ourselves will be incorporating Windrush into our meeting on Saturday 26th June. Find out how your ancestors travelled between the Caribbean and the UK and around the world. We hope you can join us.
