Our September meeting

Our next meeting will be tomorrow Saturday 24th September at 1400hrs (BST) via Zoom and will be the first of our three meetings exploring how to find ancestors in the British Caribbean Slavery Period – whether enslaved or enslaver.

The meeting will focus on key documents associated with this British Caribbean Slavery period:

a) Introducing the Records/Information Source.

b) How/Where the record can be found

c) What the record/Information source tells us.

d) How it can be used in our research.

Records to include:

  1. Slave Registers
  2. Slave Compensation Website Records (UCL – Centre for the Study of the Legacies of British Slavery)
  3. Church Records – e.g. for baptisms of children and adults especially enslaved adults
  4. Military Records
  5. Manumission Records

If you know of any other records that will aid in our research, please let us know in advance or bring them with you on the day
